Why does one get a pet? For the love of the dog, or for the company or both. Especially if you are alone and you get ill, it is always nice to have someone around to be there for you. But there is not anyone who could take the time to come and be with you. So you think about it and decide to get a pet, or maybe, you found a stray that needed a home. Now you have a lovely puppy you picked up from the kennel or you found a dog on your doorstep who has run away from its owners because it is being abused.

One day a friend found a cute white dog running on the the street and picked him up and took him to the Vet. There they discovered that this puppy had belonged to someone, because he had all the immunizations needed, but he had been neglected. The Vet suggested that she not look for the owners who may not even care that the pup was gone. She was looking for someone to adopt this pup because she lives in an apartment and dogs are not allowed. If you were the one to adopt a pup like this you will discover that he needs you as much as you need him. He needs to be fed, and bathed, and someone to play with. Before long, you have forgotten about your own problems and you find that your pet's love is keeping you going.

There have been studies done on the effect of a puppy visiting the sick in the hospital to help them feel better. There have been studies that showed that taking a dog to a nursing home improved the responses of the elderly. Dogs give you unconditional love and so taking them to the nursing home on a regular basis, draws them out of their loneliness and sometimes even makes them smile. Puppy therapy is what the doctor may order. But you have found a dog to love. He does not always need a lot of care. He stays right by your side. You have someone to talk to even if he (or especially since he) does not respond in words. All the while you both were bonding, you suddenly realize that you feel so much better, and that your pup is happy and healthy again. Did he heal you, or did you heal him? Well, maybe it helped a lot. They say love heals, and a pet is pure love and devotion.
